Glaucoma Evaluations

Glaucoma is a medical condition characterized with increased pressure within the eyeball that could slowly lead to permanent loss of sight. One of the horrible things about glaucoma is that in the early stages of glaucoma - when starting treatment can give great results - there are usually no symptoms at all. That’s why it’s so important that you get tested for glaucoma during your annual visit to the eye doctor.

When contacting Pro Optix, you can rest assure that your health, and more specifically your vision, are in good hands. All of our specialists hold medical degrees from the best schools, have years of experience and have helped hundreds of patients. We use the latest technology in the industry to conduct tests and any in-clinic treatments.

A comprehensive glaucoma evaluation consists of a few different tests, including:

  • Tonometry. During this test, the doctor uses a special tool called tonometer to measure how your cornea resists pressure.
  • Gonioscopy. During this test, your ophthalmologist will look at the natural drainage angle of your eye.
  • Ophthalmoscopy. For this test, special drops will be used to enlarge your pupils, which allows your doctor to inspect the optic nerve.
  • Visual field test. This is where we test your peripheral vision.
  • Pachymetry. This is where we measure the thickness of your cornea.

Based on the results from the different tests, your eye doctor can decide whether to do one, more than one or all of the tests above.

Pediatric eye exams

Did you know that up to 10% of pre-schoolers and up to 25% of children in school age have problems with their eyes? Taking your children to regular eye exams is important for the condition of their vision throughout their life, and it can also make all the difference in their reading abilities.

At Pro Optix, we offer comprehensive Pediatric Eye Exams for children of all ages. Our specialists will ensure your child is comfortable and feels minimum discomfort during their eye exam. The screenings at your child's school or pediatrician often miss diagnosis that could be detrimental to your child's optimal long term visual outcome. A thorough comprehensive test is highly recommended for all children.

According to the American Optometric Association, all children should have their first eye exam when 6 months old. If there is no reason to believe that any complications are developing, there should be preventive eye exams again at ages 3 and 5 or 6 - right before your child goes to school.

Diabetes is one of the most insidious health conditions. While it directly influences the levels of sugar in your blood, it indirectly influences your entire body. It is especially important for diabetics to have regular eye exams due to risks of diabetic retinopathy, which is a complication that can even lead - if untreated - to complete loss of sight. Diabetic retinopathy is more likely to occur with diabetics with Type 2 diabetes, but it is possible to develop in other forms as well.

At Pro Optix, we perform routine eye exams for hundreds of diabetics every year. The eye exam is rather routine, so there’s nothing to worry about. A very thorough check of the external and internal parts of the eye are done to determine if the diabetes have affected any part of the eye or vision. Diabetes can cause fluctuations in vision, bleeding in the back of the eye and even potential blindness if not treated in time. The optometrist at Pro-optix Eye Care are fully trained ot manage diabetes and the effects it has on the eyes.
